AirAsia Chided Over Plans

AirAsia has been advised not to jump the gun by informing the media about its application for new routes and an increase of flight frequency. Transport Minister Datuk Ong Tee Keat said the company should wait for the authorities to make a decision.

"I see no necessity for Air-Asia to tell the media every time they file for a new application," he said after the installation of new committee members at the state Federation of Chinese Associations and state Federation of Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry here yesterday. Ong, however, said that every application made by the airline would be given due consideration.

"All airlines have to follow procedures when applying for a new sector or if they want to increase the number of flights.

"The ministry will process the applications according to the guidelines and will take into consideration the air traffic rights and passenger load as the key factors". AirAsia, among others, plans to increase the number of flights to Singapore to six times a day, citing the route as its most profitable. For AirAsia to gain extra flights to the republic, Malaysia has to allow an increase in the frequency of flights by Singapore's budget airline Tiger Airways to Kuala Lumpur. At present, AirAsia flies to Singapore twice a day and Tiger Airways has the same number of flights to Kuala Lumpur.

Changi International Airport

Analisis: Nampaknya Tony Fernandes ni makin kurang ajar.

  1. Salam Paneh,

Faham fahamlah jerat Singapore tu. Dia diperalatkan.

Ustaz Mak Cik kata Singapore pun dah adopt halal products, import ayam halal sembelihan kita beribu kontena buat menarik Pak Arab Pak Arab yang bercuti bulan panas ni.

Sudahlah reclaimation work tak habis habis.

Melompat Rais Yatim, kita heboh heboh hal dalaman, jiran Singapore dalam senyap senyap buat homework dia orang.

Jangan main-main dengan jiran yang satu ni. Hati-hati, baik pesan cucu cicit kita supaya jangan percaya sangat dengan dia orang. Kalau nak buat perjanjian, read between the tiny lines. Kalau tidak 100 tahun lagi, habis semua tergadai.

  4. KOTA KINABALU: The federal government has agreed for AirAsia to undertake direct flights from three major towns in Sabah and Sarawak to Singapore, Transport Minister Datuk Ong Tee Keat said.

He said officials from his ministry and their Singapore counterparts will meet later this month to discuss direct flights from Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and Miri to the island republic.

“Our negotiations would be based on reciprocity. We hope to finalise negotiations this month,” he told reporters Saturday after attending the Sabah MCA convention here.

He said the Transport Ministry had been given the green light by the Government to negotiate for the low-cost carrier to provide direct flights to Singapore from the three major cities in Sabah and Sarawak.

He also disclosed that his officials would be discussing increasing the frequency of the current daily two flights to Singapore during their meeting with their counterparts.

“We hope by December the additional flights to Singapore by AirAsia will be implemented,” Ong said, adding that the move was part of Asean’s roadmap towards liberalising aviation.
